More Permanent Homes for east Beach park?
The owners of East Beach Caravan Park want to build 32 more permanent residential park homes on the north side of the railway line. The original agreement made in 2005 was for 15 permanent static caravans plus 35 touring caravans or campers during the summer season.
If the council allow the original agreement to be altered, then this will add to traffic congestion in the surrounding area and will remove the holiday usage of this site, which is one of the few remaining places in this area.
If you object to this proposal you need to put this in writing to the Corporate Director Adult Community Services, Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS2 6AN
Beach Huts for East Beach?
A proposal to build 20 Beach Huts on the south end of the beach has been put forward by Cllr Roger Hadley.
The plan is to sell the huts and and raise money for the cash strapped council. Many local residents have raised objections to the plan and the lack of public consultation with residents of George Street and Rampart Terrace who will be most affected by this development. Some people see this as part of the continued commercialisation of East Beach and the exploitation of what the ruling Conservative Group call "their assets". Others feel that this is just the beginning and that it won't be long before Beach Huts spread all the way across the beach, spoiling the natural beauty of the area.
Spy Cars raise over £141,000 in fines
After only six months, the fines raised by Southend's Spy Cars have reached over £141,000 much to the concern of residents who are already suffering from the austere measures inflicted by the coalition government.
The spy cars were introduced to combat problems with parents parking inconsiderately outside schools when picking up their children and to target roads which have become notorious for motorists flouting parking restrictions but many residents believe the real reason for their introduction is to fill the council's coffers. In Shoebury High Street there have been several bookings, particularly outside the newsagent, and this is having an adverse effect on local business. As your local councillor I will be keeping a close watch on the situation to make sure that common sense is used and that situations such as the one where a motorist was booked for stopping with a flat tyre are avoided!
